Description

The Regent Theatre opened in February 1929. In 1950 the cinema was renamed the Gaumont Cinema, and in 1976 it became the Odeon. Originally there was seating for over 2,000 people; later in the 1970s the auditorium was split into three screens. The cinema closed in October 1989. The building remained unoccupied until the mid 1990s when it was obtained by the City of Stoke-on-Trent. The theatre was renovated, including alterations to the auditorium. The stage was enlarged, which involved the removal and replacement of the proscenium arch and alterations to the double dome in the ceiling of the auditorium. In 1999 the theatre reopened with a single auditorium.
