Description

The Compton Organ was built in 1937 by the John Compton Organ Company for the Paramount Theatre at New Street, the last cinema to be opened by Paramount. Compton had been commissioned by Paramount to build organs for their cinemas as Liverpool, Glasgow, London and Birmingham in the 1930s, and developed a unique console design known as the Paramount Style. The Paramount Theatre was renamed after being acquired by Odeon in 1942. In 1988 the organ was removed and sold; it has since been relocated several times.
