Description

The Futurist Theatre opened in 1919 with a single screen and seating for over 1,000. It is thought to be the first cinema in Birmingham to show "talkies", in 1929. The building was damaged by bombing in 1940 and reopened in 1943 after repairs. The date of this photograph is not known: the cinema was divided into two screens in 1981 and was renamed the Cannon Cinema at some point, before closing in the 1990s. This photograph has therefore been dated as approximately between 1970-1990.
