Description

The Birmingham Hippodrome Theatre opened as the Tower of Varieties and Circus in 1899, but soon closed and reopened in 1900 as the Tivoli Theatre of Varieties. The name and use of the building changed several times in the 20th century, and interior and exterior redevelopments were carried out. The theatre was closed between 1999 and 2001 for redevelopement, including rebuilding the shell of the building and the replacement of the facade with a glass wall as shown in this photograph.
