Description

The Odeon Cinema was designed by Cecil Clavering of Harry Weedon's practice and opened in 1936. The design of the building includes the classic Odeon fin tower, and the composition of the entrance, foyer, auditorium and tower were inspired by the Titania Palast in Berlin. The cinema was one of the first Odeon Cinemas to be converted into a triple screen cinema, and in 1987 a fourth screen was added. The name changed to Empire Cinema following a takeover in 2006.
