Description

The Odeon Cinema opened in 1935. It had been planned as an independent cinema, the Beacon Cinema, but was opened as one of the original Odeon Cinemas by Oscar Deutsch. Designed by J Cecil Havering of Harry Weedon's architectural practice, the exterior includes the elements of typical Odeon style: minimal windows, streamlined style, prominent vertical feautres, and contrasting brick and faience tiles. The cinema closed in 1962 and reopened days later as a Top Rank Bingo Club. It later became a Mecca Bingo Club.
