The Ritz Cinema was opened in July 1937. It was designed for the Union Cinema Circuit by Frank Verity and Samuel Beverley with decorations in Art Deco, neo-Egyptian and Chinoiserie styles. The Ritz was renamed ABC Cinema in 196, but reverted to its original name in 1977 after becoming an independent cinema. The Ritz Cinema closed in 1984 and was reopened as the Ritz Bingo Club, later the Gala Bingo Club. It closed in 2007 and in 2008 the building was Listed at Grade II.
