Description

The cinema opened as the Gaumont Palace in 1934. The stone panels on either side of the name sign at the top of the facade were carved by Newbury A. Trent; the figures are thought to represent a clown, Pantaloon, Harlequin and Columbine from the Italian Commedia dell'arte. The date of this photograph is not known but it was likely taken when the cinema was operating as the Odeon Cinema between 1965 and 1983.
