Description

The cinema was opened in 1936 and was designed architect by Harry Weedon, who designed a number of cinemas for the Odeon chain. The cinema was closed in 1981 and soon after it became a nightclub, originally named Arena, but later known as Sol Viva. The club was operational until 2010 and in 2013 it was demolished to make way for a new shopping centre and multiplex cinema that opened on the opposite side of the road.
