Description

The building was designed by the architectural firm Drury & Gomersall of Manchester in 1937. The cinema originally opened as the Carlton Cinema. In July 1948 the cinema was taken over by the Essoldo Cinemas chain and was converted to a twin cinema in 1971. It became part of the Classic Cinemas chain in 1972, with its final owners being the Cannon Group, who ran the cinema from 1982 until its closure in 1992. The cinema was demolished in 1994.
