This cinema originally opened as the Oxford 'Super' Cinema in 1924. In 1937 it was taken over by Associated British Cinemas (ABC) and continued operating until 1971 when it was closed for refurbishment, re-opening shortly afterwards. Between 1986 and 2000 it was operated by the Cannon Group, then MGM, followed by ABC. In 2000 it was taken over by Odeon Cinemas and in 2010 new seats were added and the cinema was renovated.
