This cinema building opened in 1937 under the name of the Ritz Cinema but was taken over by Associated British Cinemas (ABC) later in the year. It operated as a cinema until 1972 before being converted into a bingo club and cinema which ran until 1982. This photograph appears to have been taken shortly before the closure of the cinema as films being promoted on the billboard include Vice Squad, released in the UK in September 1982.
