Description

This cinema building opened in 1929 under the name of the Regent Theatre. It was originally designed by the architect W Sydney Trent but a new front for it was designed by architects William Edward Trent and Ernest F Tulley, which was added in 1931. The cinema was re-named Gaumont in 1952 and Odeon in 1963, operating as such until 1974. It was then converted into a Top Rank Bingo Club, later Mecca Bingo Club. This closed in 2008 after being purchased by Swindon Borough Council and was re-opened as MECA (Music Entertainment Cultural Arena).
