Description

The New Grand Theatre opened in 1902 and was converted from a corn exchange and warehouse. The theatre was renamed the Grand Opera House and Empire in 1903, later known simply as the Empire Theatre. The auditorium was altered for use as a skating rink and bingo hall in 1958. In the late 1980s, the theatre was restored and reopened as the Grand Opera House.
