Description

The Saville Theatre opened in 1931 and was designed by T P Bennett & Son. The frieze on the front is by the sculptor Gilbert Bayes and depicts Drama Through the Ages. The theatre was converted into a cinema for Associated British Cinemas in 1970, and was taken over and renamed several times in the late 20th and 21st centuries. The date of this photograph is not known; it was probably taken when the cinema was operating at the ABC Cinema (1982) or MGM Cinema (1992), as the photographer took other photographs of the cinema at these times.
