Description

The Regal Cinema opened in 1934. It also housed a ballroom and restaurant, and hosted live music concerts using the stage. The Christie organ was rebuilt in 1947: the illuminated glass console was replaced with a smaller wooden console. The organ remained in working order in the building after it became a Top Rank bingo Club, the bingo club operated until 1985. The organ was then removed and installed in the Memorial Hall in Barry. The cinema building was later demolished. The date of this photograph is not known. Although the building has been called the Top Rank Bingo Club, the photograph may date from 1972-1974, when it was used as a disco and live music venue before briefly reopening as a cinema.
