Description

Construction of the King's Cross Cinema began in 1913. During the First World War the building was used for the manufacturing of aircraft parts, and later as an employment exchange. It opened as a cinema in 1920. The cinema was closed between 1949 and 1952, due to damage sustained during the Second World War. It was operated by Gaumont and Odeon Cinemas in the 1950s and 1960s, and became the Cineclub in 1971. The building was later used as a live music venue and snooker hall, before reverting back to a cinema known as the Scala Cinema. This closed in 1993, and the building has since been used by a church in the former stage, a snooker club in the former stalls, and a nightclub in the former circle.
