Description

The Granada Theatre, or Granada Cinema, opened in 1937. It was designed by J Owen Bond, with the interior by Theodore Komisarjevsky. The cinema was fitted with a Wurlitzer organ, opened in 1937 by the organist Harry Farmer. The organ fell into disrepair in the 1950s but was restored in the 1960s and used for concerts. When the cinema closed in 1996, the organ remained in situ. It was restored and remained on show in the early 21st century, when the building was converted into a gym. The date of this photograph is not known but it is presumed to have been taken when the cinema was operating as the Granada Cinema.
