Description

The Granada Theatre, or Granada Cinema, opened in 1937. It was designed by J Owen Bond, with the interior by Theodore Komisarjevsky in a typical style for a Granada cinema: three bays of grilles or decoration on the ante-proscenium walls, and a large light fitting within circular decorative plasterwork on the auditorium's ceiling. The Granada was later taken over by Cannon Cinemas in 1989, then Virgin Cinemas in 1995. It closed as the ABC Cinema in 1996. The building was converted into a gym.
