Description

The Regal Cinema opened in 1934. It was renamed Essoldo Cinema in 1947, Classic Cinema in 1972, and later Cannon Cinema. It was closed in 1990 and reopened, run by Robins Cinemas, in 1991. The cinema closed in 2003 and the building was converted into a bar, music venue, and later a restaurant. The original Art Deco interior features had gradually been hidden, either due to their location in disused areas of the building or through modernisation and redecorating in the 1970s and early 21st century. The original Compton organ was removed soon after the cinema was taken over by Classic in 1972.
