Description

The Gaumont Cinema opened in May 1938. Nova Pilbeam attended the opening, which was probably a screening of 'Young and Innocent'. Her handprints and footprints were set in cement on the pavement beside the cinema's entrance. The cinema closed in 1964. The building became a bingo hall and later a snooker club. In the mid 1990s, the building was used as a skating rink and was then converted for retail use.
