Description

Originally known as the Irving Theatre, the building was opened in 1899 as a live theatre. It was renamed Kings Theatre in 1904 and began showing films. It was reconstructed after fire damage in 1908 and renamed La Scala theatre, later Hippodrome Theatre. The theatre closed in 1934 and was reopened as the Embassy Luxury Theatre in 1936, soon operating solely as a cinema and later known as the Embassy Cinema. The cinema closed in 1959 and the building was used as a bingo hall and nightclub.
