Description

The Rex Cinema was opened in 1938 and was renamed the Studio Cinema in 1973, when it was then adapted into a bingo hall and cinema. In 1976 the circle was partitioned to form two screens, and the stalls were used for bingo. The partitioned auditorium retained the plasterwork art deco decoration of the proscenium arch, and the wave motifs and shells on the walls. The cinema closed in 1988 and reopened in 2004 after renovations.
