The original caption reads: "'The Englishman's Home'; mural by John Piper on the southern facade of the Homes and Gardens Pavilion."

'The Englishman's Home' was painted in 1950 by John Piper, in his garden in Oxfordshire. Some of the buildings in the mural have been identified, including Regency Square, Brighton; Kirby Hall, Northamptonshire; gateway of East Barsham Manor, Norfolk; Castle Howard, Yorkshire; Owlpen Manor, Gloucestershire. It is the largest surviving piece of work from the Festival of Britain.
