Description

The west gatehouse tower beyond Queen Elizabeth's Gate was the main entrance to the castle's inner complex, and so was very well defended with arrow loops, machicolations and a portcullis. It was formerly known as Woodville Gate, after Anthony de Wydville who built the gatehouse in the mid-15th century, but it is now more commonly known as the Entrance Gate.
