Description

The pier was erected in 1876 by a local contractor, J Denham of Freshwater, so this photograph can be dated to after this point. The photograph is stamped with 'Poulton's Series'. The majority of the photographs in the series are known to have been taken by Thomas Polson Lugton, and the name of the series, 'Poulton', is made up of several of the letters from 'Polson' and 'Lugton'.
