Description

The west gatehouse tower was formerly known as Woodville Gate, after Anthony de Wydville, who built the gatehouse in the mid-15th century, but is now more commonly known as the Entrance Gate. The gatehouse was well defended with arrow loops, machicolations and a portcullis as it was the main entrance to the castle's inner complex.
