Description

The west gatehouse tower was once known as Woodville's Gate, because it was built in the mid-15th century by Anthony de Wydville, then Lord of the castle. The gatehouse was well defended with arrow loops, machicolations and a portcullis as it was the main entrance to the castle's inner complex.
