Description

The cross-head was discovered in 1891 when the foundations of the Norman chapter house were dug up. It is now housed in the Monks' Dormitory, Durham cathedral. The broad face is shown in OP06427. On the upper arm is a complete pattern B with a fret terminal. On the lower, a closed circuit pattern in which two concentric rings are linked with four loops gives the effect of a pattern D. The panels are enclosed in single roll mouldings.
