Description

The cross-head was discovered in 1891 when the foundations of the Norman chapter house were dug up. It is now housed in the Monks' Dormitory, Durham cathedral. The reverse side of OP06426. In the centre of the head is a quadruped with its front leg raised behind which is a shafted cross. The outer arms are carved with two registers of simple pattern E. The upper arm is a composition of two entwined canines.
