Description

The cross-head was discovered in 1891 when the foundations of the Norman chapter house were dug up. It is now housed in the Monks' Dormitory, Durham cathedral. The obverse side of OP06425. In the centre of the head is a figure with outstretched arms. His hands lie under the front legs of two quadrupeds. In the upper arm is a backward-looking quadruped.
