Description

Malmesbury Abbey's present structure comprises of the ruins of the former Abbey Church of St Mary and St Aldhelm now partially converted into the Parish Church, with much of the structure dating to the 12th century. The Market Cross was built in the late 15th or early 16th century, and was renovated circa 1800 by the Earl of Suffolk. It underwent further repairs between 1909 - 1912 and 1949 - 1950. This photograph was taken by W Hanks, and was previously held in the collection of the Society of Antiquaries, London.
