Description

Lacock Abbey was originally an Augustinian nunnery and was founded in 1229. At the Dissolution in 1540, the building was sold to Sir William Sharington, High Sheriff of Wiltshire, who converted it into a residence, adding many features including the octagonal tower which bears his name.
