Description

St Lawrence's Church is an 8th to 10th century Saxon church, on the site of an 8th century monastry founded by St Aldhelm circa 705-10. The monastry was dissolved in 1001 when it was granted to Sherborne Abbey. The church was used as a charnel house during the medieval period before being converted into a school and dwelling in the 18th or 19th century, and was restored in 1870.
