Description

The Abbey Church of St Alban was begun soon after the Norman Conquest on the site of an existing Saxon religious complex devoted to the Saint. The Abbey underwent renovations in the late-nineteenth century under Sir Gilbert Scott and Lord Grimthorpe, who rebuilt much of the structure in the Victorian style.
