Traditional horse-drawn wagons like those shown in the photograph were first used by Showmen in the early 19th century. By 1850 they were also in use by the Romanichal community and are known as ‘vardos’ in the Romani language. This photograph by George Washington Wilson has an original number of 6843 printed on the front.
