Description

The Percy Canopy was built between 1340 and 1349 and is a masterpiece of medieval stone carving. The canopy's figurative sculptures are metaphors for the tomb owner's soul's progress after his or her death, although the identity of the person originally buried in the tomb in uncertain. The canopy escaped destruction during the Reformation and remains a fine example of fourteenth century carving.

Archival History

The reverse of the print shows a RCHME NMR stamp detailing that the print was accessioned to the collection on the 6th of July 1965.
