The 'SS America' was constructed in 1884 to sail the North Atlantic route between Liverpool and New York. However she proved uncompetitive and in 1887 she was sold to the Italian government and renamed 'Trinacria'. This photograph shows the Liverpool water front before the construction of the 'Three Graces' (Royal Liver Building, Cunard Building and Port of Liverpool Building).
