Description

The Tiltyard was used as a jousting arena and was constructed on top of the dam, which held back the flow of the stream below thus forming the Great Mere which surrounded the castle in the late medieval period. The dam was subsequently used as the main entrance to the castle until around the turn of the 21st century.
