Description

This timber-framed town house, now a museum, dates from the late fifteenth century and was extensively restored in 1868. The poet and playwright William Shakespeare was born in the house and spent his childhood there, later also spending the first five years of his marriage with Anne Hathaway at the house. This photograph could be attributed to the photographer Evan G Humphreys, who was based in Chapel Street, Stratford-upon-Avon. Other prints by Humphreys in this collection show the same number series and are mounted on the same card and in the same style, with most showing his stamp on the reverse, so it is fair to assume that this print was by Humphreys also.
