Kenilworth Castle was begun in the twelfth century and is a spectacular example of a large enclosure castle and later Royal residence. It was modified extensively throughout the medieval and post-medieval periods, with Leicester's Building added in the sixteenth century as high-status accommodation for visitors to the castle.
