Description

The cottages in the background of this image are the adjoining eighteenth century Bridges Cottage and seventeenth century Baskerville Cottage. On the reverse of the card mount there is a note written by the photographer, Bernard Moore of Birmingham, reading 'Autotype, Standard Brown on Crayon Paper', refering to the process he has used to create this photographic positive. An autotype is form of Carbon Print, a process which can utilise tints to produce a subtle tinted print. Here the photographer has produced a brown tinted print.
