Description

The statue represents Guy of Warwick and is carved from a single piece of living stone, depicting Guy as a medieval knight. The statue dates to the fourteenth century and is consistent in style with sculpture from the 1330s and 1340s. Guy's Cliffe House itself was built circa 1751 - 1757, with substantial later additions in the early and late nineteenth century. The house fell into disrepair in the mid-twentieth century, the contents being removed in 1952 before a roof collapse in 1966. However, the kitchen wing and chapel are still in use by the Freemasons.

Archival History

Previously accessioned into the collection of the National Buildings Record on the 19th of October 1957.
