Description

Mervyn's Bower is referred to in Chapter 29 of Sir Walter Scott's novel 'Kenilworth', which was published in January 1821. It is unclear, however, whether the architectural feature was known by that name before the book was published, or whether it became known as such due to the popularity of the novel.

This image was taken by James Valentine and Sons Limited, and it appears that the background of the image has been removed during the development process.
