Description

Stoneleigh Abbey is actually a large country house and related buildings, incorporating the remains of the Cistercian abbey from which it takes its name. The large fifteen-bay west wing, seen to the left in this photograph, was constructed between 1714 and 1726, with earlier domestic buildings on the site dating back to the mid-sixteenth century when the estate was acquired by the Leigh family after the dissolution of the abbey.

There are a great many notes in pencil on the reverse of the print, including dimension notes, identification numbers A2607A, 235 and 477, and the name 'Batsford Esq' which may refer to the client who requested the print.
