Description

The castle dates from the twelfth century, with Leicester's Buildings, visible to the left of the frame, completed in the sixteenth century. Leicester's Building was constructed by Robert Dudley, Earl of Leicester, as a three-storey high-status accommodation block for visitors to the castle. The photograph was taken by James Valentine and Sons Limited.

Archival History

Accessioned into the collection of the National Buildings Record on the 19th of October 1951.
