Description

The castle dates from the twelfth century, with huge additions and alterations made in the mid-sixteenth century by Robert Dudley, Earl of Leicester, ahead of visits by Queen Elizabeth I. This chamber is almost certainly one constructed for Queen Elizabeth I to occupy. This collotype print was created by James Valentine and Sons Limited and is likely to have been a copy made from an original photograph by the company. The creation date range of this print has been confirmed from other surviving reproductions of this image.
