Description

Kenilworth Castle dates from the early twelfth century, but this structure, formerly known as the Banqueting Hall, now known as John of Gaunt's Great Hall, was begun in the mid-fourteenth century after the castle passed into the ownership of John of Gaunt, son of Edward III. This is a collotype print, a mechanical print created by James Valentine and Sons Limited from an original photograph also by James Valentine and Sons Limited. The original photograph was marked with either the number 2478 or 2678 (partially cropped). The creation date range of this print has been confirmed from other surviving reproductions of this image.
