Description

The origin of this cutting is not currently known, but it is stamped 'WHG' so comes from the collection of W H Godfrey. The drawing may be the 'Water colour drawing of Chelsea Old Church, showing Arch House (1788)' by 'T. Malton' held by Chelsea Public Library and referenced in the Survey of London, vol. 4: Chelsea, pt II (1913), pp. 3-6. The caption on this cutting says 'From the drawing by Malton, 1817', but Thomas Malton died in 1804, so either the caption is wrong and it is the 1788 drawing, or another Malton is the artist.
