Description

There had been a public house on the site (likely known as the Green Man) since around 1650. The building was demolished in 2003. The historical directories record a Joseph Robert Benfield as the Landlord of the Green Man public house during the period of the photograph, so it is likely that he owned the entire site including the Wine and Spirits Shop. The site appears to have been owned/occupied by different members of the Benfield Family from 1869-1871 and 1881-1901.
